Planning a vacation?

Last year gas prices were so high as were airfares and just about everything else. This year, however, due to everyone cutting back, prices have been reduced considerably.

I don't know anyone who hasn't cut back on spending, but with these vacation prices being lower, it's enabling us all to reconsider going somewhere instead of staying home. Westgate is just one of the many resort chains that have lowered prices. They are offering a great Las Vegas package for $149. Having resorts in many of the most popular places, we can go just about anywhere in the states and stay at one of their resorts and take advantage of their great deals.

Mesothelioma, still a lot to be learned

If you have a friend of family member who has been diagnosed with mesothelioma you know how far they've come in learning about it, but also know how far they have to go before they fully understand this terrible disease.

Mesothelioma is relatively new, but a lot of research is being done and some great discoveries being made as well. A dear cousin of mine has been diagnosed with it so whenever I find a new website I bookmark it and send it to him. When I came across www.mesotheliomahelp.net I read with interest about some of the inroads that are being made. I was also pleased to read that there are a lot of support groups available for sufferers of this disease. Support groups are a great tool not only for the sufferer, but also family members. I'm reminded of a Beatles song, "I'll Get By With A Little Help From My Friends". How true!!

The new face of business

I have several family members who are in the insurance business. In fact, my brother and sister-in-law are, their daughter and her husband are insurance people as is my nephew. Their business has been very successful over the years. Times are changing even for their business, however. People aren't content to stay with just one insurance company but want to shop for the best price and are using the internet to do so.

As things change for individuals who are shopping for insurance, so are they changing for those who sell it. Business is stressed and they all have to consider new ways of finding health insurance leads. There are now companies online who have valid leads for insurance companies, people who are shopping for the best prices around.

The more things change, though, the more they stay the same.

A buzzworthy site

I have been doing some research on a diet supplement that my daughter is using and I came across what I consider a "buzzworthy site". It's www.diet-supplements.com. They list most of the supplements and then recommend the best diet supplements according to different criteria.

No matter which product you are thinking of using or want to educate yourself on, they have information on it. Products from a-z, detox products, cleanses, appetite suppressants, fat burners etc. etc. etc. They list it, give a review of it based on their research. They offer their reviews which appear to be fair and based on credible information, but also give the website for the product so that you can read what the makers of them have to say.

This site is impressive and I highly recommend you check it out for yourself. You might want to bookmark it for future reference. I did.

Warm weather striked again in South Texas

It's only May and already here in South Texas we are having temperature in the 90s. I'm not ready for this yet!

I was talking to my neighbor this morning. She's just a young woman in her 30s and is either on a diet, just going on a diet or just coming off of one. Bless her heart! She's not alone, though, as we're all urged to watch our weight no matter our age. It's not about how we look so much as being healthy, feeling our best and of course, feeling good about ourselves. Body image is an important issue no matter your age or gender.

My neighbor was saying that she is using Liporexall, a diet aid, appetite suppressant. I'm very careful when taking any over the counter medication and always do a lot of research to find out what the ingredients are. It's so important to make sure there isn't anything harmful in non-prescription drugs. I also asked her to please check with her doctor too. She said she would. She's a smart young lady!

I learn something new everyday.....

I overheard my daughter and her husband discussing "pos systems" the other day. I listened waiting for a clue as to what it was, but a clue never came along. So, once there was a lull in the discussion, I asked, "What is a pos system?"

I have to tell you that my daughter is very business savvy. I truly admire her ability to think out of the box. She can see the big picture with ease and that ability has paid off for her over the years.

I digress! POS systems are "Point of sale" systems. If you go to a department store and make a purchase, the cashier who rings it up is using that store's POS system. The cash register is tied into their computer system. It takes the product out of their inventory as it is sold to you. Besides retail stores, restaurants us these systems, as do salons. I would bet there are systems for every kind of business that there is.

The "nether world" of factories

As a woman I find factories, their equipment, what they do and how they work boggles my mind. My husband was talking to a neighbor about their days of working in factories. The early days when they weren't in management. It was as if they were talking a foreign language!! Break presses, industrial hand wheels, motion and time study! I didn't bother to even ask any questions. I just listened and nodded my head as if I knew just what they were talking about.

We ladies got back at them, though, when we started to discuss our sewing projects and the different ways to put a zipper in. You'd have enjoyed the quizzical looks on their faces when we talked about presser feet. Talk about foreign languages. I guess we're all in the same boat when we're listening to discussions on things we know nothing about.
